ABOUT THE SIMULATOR

STATE-OF-THE-ART SIMULATOR ADDS EXTRA DIMENSION TO EMERGENCY PLANNING.

The Center for Emergency Solutions at Concordia University-Portland offers realistic, life-like emergency management and disaster response training in a safe, structured environment. Simulated scenarios enhance critical thinking, build team strategies, and improve emergency communication skills. This million-dollar simulator — one of the most advanced in the nation — enables participants to experience security threats and disasters firsthand, gaining valuable leadership and analytical skills.

Master your incident management skills for any situation

Thousands of different scenarios can be programmed into the simulator — everything from floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes, to chemical spills, fires, train derailments, and terrorist attacks. An enormous screen flanked by stations and a command center show participants what it’s like to be in a live, real-time emergency — making critical decisions when lives are on the line.

Immersive simulator training includes:

  • Full-scale, multi-level simulation

  • Physics-based embedded artificial intelligence, providing accurate animations and a motion platform with real-time simulations

  • On-screen Incident Command Room with a 22’ wide, 180-degree Immersion Theater Screen

  • Seven user stations with video monitors

  • Separate Emergency Operations/Command Center

  • Totally immersive exercises

  • Custom incidents that are difficult – or impossible – to simulate outside of a virtual environment

  • Objective scoring and performance assessments to support an after-action review and validation of procedures

  • Ability to re-test plans after corrective actions

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

  • "The CU Simulation Center has proven to be and effective teaching tool for delivery of emergency service response tactics and strategy and multi-company operations for a wide variety of potential scenarios. As the Director of Training for the Northwest Association of Fire Trainers, I have witnessed some of this training and can see a significant advantage for emergency service agencies that will fully utilize the Sim Lab, CU Faculty and Staff."

Ed Lindsey Director of Training, Northwest Association of Fire Trainers

  • "The interactive training session created a very strong, open dialogue within our Company leadership team. It was thought provoking and insightful, pointing out areas where we are well prepared, and where we want to improve on our resiliency, response, and recovery capabilities to handle seismic as well as other events that impact the safety and service to customers and communities we serve. The investment was well worth it."

Grant Yoshihara Vice President of Operations, NW Natural
